
Richard Thomas Michael “Pat” Flaherty, 82, passed away September 16, 2015 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s.
He graduated from St. John’s Catholic School and Cathedral High School. Pat was a veteran of the U.S. Navy of World War II. He served on the Indianapolis Fire Department from 1958 to 1976, retiring early due to an on-the-job injury. He later worked for IUPUI Parking Services.
Pat was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist, St. Philip Neri, and St. Jude parishes.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Beyer Flaherty; children, Anne (Grant) Dewey, Kevin (Kathy), Terry, Brian (Theresa), Patricia, Tim, Katie (Paul) Followell; step-children, William, Jeff (Erin), Greg (Donna), and Carol Beyer, Nancy (Glenn) Koehring, Jill (William) Frye, Amy (Joe) Click; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his previous spouse, Joyce Boucher Flaherty.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
